AICPA Urges IRS to Adjust New E-File Requirements

Some critical questions sojourn unanswered in a new IRS process that requires e-filing for preparers who record over 100 earnings in 2011 and over 10 earnings in 2012. For example, would penalties be imposed on a preparer who requested an e-file hardship waiver, afterwards filed paper earnings adult until a waiver ask was denied?  Also of regard is a requirement that a taxpayer (rather than a preparer) contingency mail a lapse as a condition of opting out of e-filing.

AICPA Tax Executive Committee Chair Patricia Thompson lifted these concerns and others in a Jan. 3 criticism minute to a IRS. Possible technical glitches could also mystify correspondence – many CPAs have had their e-filed earnings deserted in prior filing seasons.  AICPA is propelling a IRS to 1) concede 10 days, instead of 5, for editing errors with earnings that are not primarily supposed since of technical problems and 2) to lift a threshold for a charge from 100 to 200 prepares. These issues, Thompson said, “demonstrate because IRS should uncover estimable coherence in doing of a preparer e-file mandate” in a 2011 season.
