UPS Inc. and FedEx Corp. Monday announced new flights connecting Asia with North America and Europe.
FedEx Express launched a new, dedicated 777F route connecting its world air hub in Memphis, Tenn., with Seoul, South Korea, setting four nonstop flights a week.
The new route combines faster service with larger cargo capacity and FedEx said it can now deliver documents and packages from the United States, Canada and some Latin American markets to Seoul in two to three business days.
Korea is the seventh-largest trading partner with the United States in terms of two-way trade which is expected to increase after final approval of the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement, FedEx said in a statement.
UPS is launching four new direct flights from Hong Kong to Europe, enabling it to offer what it said was the widest next-day delivery coverage for both packages and heavy freight between the two locations.
With the four additional direct flights, UPS now offers a total of 11 flights from Hong Kong to Europe per week.
The new direct flights will link Hong Kong with Cologne, Germany, Monday to Thursday, via a B747-400 aircraft, UPS said in a statement.
UPS is ranked No. 1 and FedEx is No. 2 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
